I keep meaning to revisit it, and you've made me want to pick one up straight away! Glad you're enjoying them so much. Did you ever see the TV adaptations with Derek Jacobi as Cadfael? They're very good, and he's brilliant in the role.FictionFanhttp://www.fictionfanblog.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-87534323442221989342022-04-04T13:52:33.780-07:002022-04-04T13:52:33.780-07:00Lark, Until recently my historical fiction reading...Lark, Until recently my historical fiction reading did not go further back than World War I and mostly I read World War II and Cold War fiction if not reading about contemporary times. I have read one other book I know of set in the 1100s, The Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin, about a female doctor. And I read the Wolf Hall trilogy but that is several centuries later, set in the 1500s. I am enjoying learning more about medieval times and I also want to read more about Queen Elizabeth I.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-37111797062559468372022-04-04T12:51:44.060-07:002022-04-04T12:51:44.060-07:00It's not a time period I'm very familiar w...It's not a time period I'm very familiar with either. Truly a selfless person, and it helps that he is so smart. I thought Jacobi was perfect casting. In some ways it is a contradiction but Cadfael was both humble and possessing a healthy ego. Maybe it is better expressed that he was a man of principle with a curious mind. Not many sleuths fare equally well in book and T.V. Maybe it is time to go back to the good Brother.Bill Selneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17268006369157307593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-78182219183550463262022-04-03T18:59:23.169-07:002022-04-03T18:59:23.169-07:00Rick, I am glad that I finally started the series,...Rick, I am glad that I finally started the series, I had had copies of the first three books for years. Last year at the book sale I got a good number to add to my stack. I only have a couple of the books with the black covers and I like those better than the other ones I have. I don't know if I will like the series or not but I will give it a shot.

Thanks so much for sending The Cadfael Companion, I found it a great help when reading this book and there is so much interesting information there.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-56275211117238998012022-04-03T18:53:58.193-07:002022-04-03T18:53:58.193-07:00Cath, I do plan to try the TV series sometime, but...Cath, I do plan to try the TV series sometime, but I want to make sure I watch an episode that I have already read, so that none of the books will be spoiled for me. I read several of the books prior to seeing the TV series Cath mentions, and Jacobi just didn't work for me, as my mental picture is different. Your reading of these may move me to reread some of my favorites. The ones I have are from a different printing, with black covers.Rick Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07978136287154214297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-91649611026985620152022-04-03T16:01:27.614-07:002022-04-03T16:01:27.614-07:00This is such a good series.
