The latest Classics Club Spin has been announced. To join in, I choose twenty unread books from my classics list and list it in a post before Sunday, May 17th, 2026. On Sunday, the Classics Club will generate a random number between 1 through 20 and post it at the Classics Club website. Then I will read whatever book falls under that number on my Spin List by July 5th, 2026.
This list is very close to my last list; I only changed two of the books. Even so, I get excited every time I put out a spin list and wait to see which number will be picked.
So, here is my list of 20 books for the spin...
- Patricia Highsmith – The Talented Mr.Ripley (1955)
- Graham Greene – Our Man in Havana (1958)
- Roald Dahl – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964)
- Ray Bradbury – The Martian Chronicles (1950)
- Ray Bradbury – Fahrenheit 451 (1953)
- Charlotte Bronte – Jane Eyre (1847)
- Kurt Vonnegut – Slaughterhouse-Five (1955)
- John Steinbeck – Cannery Row (1945)
- Mary Shelley – Frankenstein (1818)
- Oscar Wilde – The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890)
- J. D. Salinger – Catcher in the Rye (1951)
- Chinua Achebe – Things Fall Apart (1958)
- Dashiell Hammett – Red Harvest (1929)
- Robert Louis Stevenson – The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886)
- Lewis Carroll – Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865)
- James Thurber – The 13 Clocks (1950)
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902)
- Ford Madox Ford – The Good Soldier (1915)
- Edna Ferber – Giant (1952)
- Edna Ferber – Show Boat (1926)
The three books I would most like to read for this spin are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Talented Mr.Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, or Our Man in Havana by Graham Greene. But, really, any of the books on my list would be fine.

Tracy, "13 Clocks" is such a funny read...it will make you laugh for sure! Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde surprised me...it was very good! Sorry to say, Our Man in Havana disappointed..I expected more from G. Greene. Good luck with the spin!
I loved 13 Clocks so much that I want to read it again!
You've got some excellent choices here, Tracy. I like the variety, I like the authors (the ones I've read), and I think whatever you get, you'll probably like it. I hope so!
You have a great list, Tracy. I think I've read seven of them (some of them years ago). I love Bradbury and I really enjoyed both on your list, so maybe you'll get one of them. I'm always excited for a spin!
Nancy, I hope I like Our Man in Havana better than you did. So far I have enjoyed the books I have read by him. Good to hear that you like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, though, because I have wondered about that one.
Deb, I am looking forward to reading 13 Clocks. I always have a hard time reviewing such short books though.
Margot, I agree, any book on this list will be probably be good. Some of these books have been on many of my spin lists for a long time.
Kelly, Either of those Ray Bradbury books would be good picks, especially The Martian Chronicles, because it is interconnected short stories.
I think we the only spinners with Edna Ferber on our lists. I read So Big quite a few years back for an early CC Spin and it was so good! So I wish you one of hers this spin :-)
Brona, I put both of the Edna Ferber books on my list because I liked the movie adaptations, and wanted to see if the novels were different and in what ways. I will be happy if they finally come up on the spin. I am glad to hear that you like So Big.
It was SO funny!
I think it'd be wonderful if the Spin was for Jane Eyre or Catcher in the Rye ... (my picks) but I just peeked and it appears the Spin is #9 ... so you might be in for a bit of Frankenstein ... Enjoy!
Great list! The Talented Mr. Ripley is one I really want to read at some point. Hope you spin that one. ;D
Susan, Frankenstein will be a good read too... I hope. That has been on my spin list a while so it will be good to get to it at last. I can remember I wanted to read it in 2018 for the anniversary of its publication in 1818, but I never did.
But I will go ahead and read Jane Eyre sometime in the summer also. I have been thinking a lot about that book lately.
Lark, I have been wanting to get to The Talented Mr. Ripley. But I know it is going to be a tense read, not my favorite type of read. The only other book I have read by Patricia Highsmith is Strangers on a Train. That was a very good book but in some ways it was an unpleasant read.
The spin has been announced and it is #9, so I will be reading Frankinstein in June.
I've certainly enjoyed those I've read...though I haven't read the Dahl since I was 7yo...
Todd, I think all of these will be fine reads when I get to them, but I created the list over 7 years ago, and some are not as appealing now as then. I may have read the Dahl book to my son when he was young, but I won't mind reading it again.
The Talented Mr Ripley I read years ago and its very well written but Tom Ripley is a disturbing character. The Martian Chronicles I would recommend. And look forward to reading your review of whatever book gets chosen
