It should not be too hard to find the second in the series, though.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-59936159193087060072022-06-08T12:16:12.359-07:002022-06-08T12:16:12.359-07:00I've had this and maybe one possibly two other...I've had this and maybe one possibly two others on the TBR pile forever. I had good intentions of reading and keeping pace with the series and we know how that went. Oh well. He is often interested in books set in Asian countries, usually Japan though. After he read it he passed it on to me. What I don't know know is why I resisted reading the book for so long... but I am glad I finally did.

I have been interested in Buddhism for years, so that aspect added to the story for me. This was one of those books where it took me a good while to even notice that it was in present tense.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-90296430356243835112022-05-30T06:02:59.989-07:002022-05-30T06:02:59.989-07:00This is very different! At first, I hated the cover but then I thought it does convey the setting well.

I don't always like short chapters (or short books!) but, of course, a good author and compelling story distract us from our preconceptions (like my dislike of the present tense).CLMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03595294217111602231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-77496999425070234622022-05-29T09:57:54.508-07:002022-05-29T09:57:54.508-07:00I know, Patti, it amazes me too. The only explanation I can think of is that it allows the reader to take a break without losing focus.

It was a fun read although there were some surprising scenes with some graphic violence, but not dwelt upon. I was immersed in the story, so the present tense was not taking me out of the story, like it sometimes does.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167054806459662988.post-34013675160901488572022-05-28T13:09:59.696-07:002022-05-28T13:09:59.696-07:00Short chapters are great, and I do love that setti...Short chapters are great, and I do love that setting! sounds like a fun read, despite being written in present tense.
