Color Coded Reading Challenge 2013

This is the first year that I will attempt the Color Coded Reading Challenge. When I saw the post for this challenge at My Reader's Block, I realized that I am already planning (or hoping) to read a lot of books with a color in the title. This one only requires reading nine books, and only a few of the categories may be challenging to find.

These are the basic rules:

* Read nine books in the following categories.
1. A book with "Blue" or any shade of Blue (Turquoise, Aquamarine, Navy, etc) in the title.
2. A book with "Red" or any shade of Red (Scarlet, Crimson, Burgundy, etc) in the title.
3. A book with "Yellow" or any shade of Yellow (Gold, Lemon, Maize, etc.) in the title.
4. A book with "Green" or any shade of Green (Emerald, Lime, Jade, etc) in the title.
5. A book with "Brown" or any shade of Brown (Tan, Chocolate, Beige, etc) in the title.
6. A book with "Black" or any shade of Black (Jet, Ebony, Charcoal, etc) in the title.
7. A book with "White" or any shade of White (Ivory, Eggshell, Cream, etc) in the title.
8. A book with any other color in the title (Purple, Orange, Silver, Pink, Magenta, etc.).
9. A book with a word that implies color (Rainbow, Polka-dot, Plaid, Paisley, Stripe, etc.).

* Any book read from January 1 through December 31, 2013 will count.
* Crossovers with other challenges are fine.

There is more explanation at the sign-up post on Bev's blog.

These are the books I have read for the challenge this year:

Red Planet by Robert A. Heinlein
Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley
Raven Black by Ann Cleeves
White Nights by Ann Cleeves
The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie
Green-Eyed Lady by Chuck Greaves
Silver Pigs by Lindsey Davis
A Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley (yellow)

Here is a list of a few books that I own and have not read that fit the challenge:
Stuart M. Kaminsky: Murder on the Yellow Brick Road

Charles Finch: A Beautiful Blue Death

Michael Connelly: The Black Ice

Alex Dryden: Red To Black

Qiu Xiaolong: Death Of A Red Heroine

Emma Lathen: Green Grow the Dollars
Robin Paige: Death At Gallows Green

Henning Mankell: The White Lioness
Several books by Walter Mosley:

These challenges look intimidating and require a lot of discipline in reading the books and then writing about them. I don't have it. Once in I'd hate to opt out. Good luck to you, Tracy.

Several of the books I listed here I already planned to read this year, and all are authors that I already like or are interested in, so I am optimistic. And I have the same problem; once in I really want to finish, so I have to be careful not to put too much pressure on myself.

TracyK: Welcome to the challenge! Lots of good reads on your possibles list. Will be interested to see what you choose.

Prashant: Reviews are not absolutely required. A joining post and a wrap-up post (listing all the books read and what category they fulfill) are all that you absolutely need if you want to be considered for the prize drawing at the end.

Tracy - I give you so much credit for taking on this challenge. I'll be very interested in seeing your reviews as you go along. Good luck!

Interesting challenge. I'm not doing any challenges next year as I will struggle with mine this year. But good luck!

Bev, thanks very much for making the challenge(s) more simpler than I thought at first. I'll probably consider it next year as I already have too much on my plate besides food and books. Participation by other intrepid bloggers has opened up a whole lot of new books and authors for me.

The Charles Finch and Death of a Red Heroine were both excellent. I think this sounds like a fun challenge, good luck!
