After four months without a cat we now have a new one in our home. His name is London, and we got him at the local cat rescue society, ASAP, in early August. The people at ASAP said that he is two years old, and he weighs ten pounds. He seems huge to us after our previous cats.
He loves to be petted and will butt your hand to remind you to pet his head. He purrs a lot and loudly (like a motorboat). He doesn't meow (at least not since he has been with us), but he chirps and trills a lot, and he has adjusted to us for the most part, and vice versa. He is a big eater, and he wants to be fed often and eat off our plates. He wakes up my husband to be fed early in the morning.

He is a very good looking cat, FictionFan. We are not used to his size, and marvel at it, especially when we have to pick him up or see him stretched out.

Wonderful news! Welcome London...The gentle sound of a cat purring (...even if it sounds like a motorboat!) is one of the most soothing noises you can experience. Enjoy once again... sitting on the couch after a long day, with your cat nestled beside you, purring away softly.

Our 12 lbs female tabby, is across the bed from me now...we had mostly big cats (she isn't particularly fat, just a beefy she; our newer, calico cat, inherited from a dear friend whose sister, her keeper, died, is more a behavioral problem, and is a mere 6 lbs (up from 4 and healthier for it). Big girl (my default nickname for her) is about 12, little girl about 5 or 6 years old. LG gets a daily dose of a mood-controlling drug in her ear, an affliction she takes with some recrimination toward us but also resignation...not sure if she's noted that she apparently seems to feel less anxious after goo-in-the ear...
And Big Girl, like London, is quite certain her breakfast is due at 6am or thereabouts, and lets me know with speculative mewing. LG is always ready for hers about the same time.

Nancy, we are very happy to have London. I missed not having a cat companion. It is interesting how different each cat is, and we are adapting to the changes.
What a gorgeous kitty!! I would love to have a cat someday, but we've always had dogs who probably wouldn't welcome a feline sibling. I do have three grandcats and the biggest one is 17 pounds! (he's not fat - just a big boy!)
I hope we'll get to see more photos of London.

Cath, he is a very handsome cat. That picture near the books was one of the earliest ones that Glen took. Since then he has spent some time climbing about on stacks of books in our bed room. Those big fat history books are Glen's.
Todd, I realize now that 10 pounds is not so big, but London just seems huge to us especially compared to the small female cats we had before. Cats do seem to think that their humans should get up early to feed them. Big Girl and Little Girl sound like lovely cats, no matter what their problems may be. I did not know that there were mood controlling drugs for cats.
Margot, four months was a long time to go without having a cat around. But now we have the adjustment to new cat behaviors that we had not experienced before.
Kelly, We had two dogs (one at a time) in the earlier years of our marriage but we changed over to a cat when we moved to our condominium. I cannot imagine a 17 pound cat, especially if it is all muscle. I am sure that there will be more photos of London.
Kathy, We have had two cats who had to be encouraged to eat, so this is different for us. But London is always ready for more food, and lets us know, and isn't happy that food is limited. Since we have had him, he hasn't been terribly active, but we are all still settling in so maybe later he will be.

Wow he is a good looking cat! So glad you saved him and he seems expressive and boisterous. I had cats growing up with my family and they were indoor-and outdoor ... we had a cat window. Will London be an inside cat? Is he named after Jack London? enjoy.
Susan, He is good looking, but like the other cats we have had, he usually looks either sad or mad, or sometimes totally surprised. London was named at ASAP before we got him and we just stuck with it. We were surprised that not only are there cats named London, but also men and women with the first name of London.
We had cats when I was a kid, from the late 1950s until I went to college. No one suggested spaying at the time, and the first cat, Mimi, had several litters, of which we kept some. They were all indoor / outdoor cats, and we only lost one cat when it was hit by a car, if I remember correctly.
However, we make sure all cats we get can be indoor cats, which is what ASAP recommends also. We are close enough to coyotes to be worried about them. None of our cats have had any problem with staying indoors.
