Five Years of Blogging

Today I am celebrating the fifth anniversary of my first blog post.

In the last year I have blogged less but enjoyed it just as much as ever. I am basing this mainly on numbers of posts; my average number of posts on the blog in 2016 was 8 a month. In 2015 I posted on the average 11 posts a month. I have noticed that my posts are longer now, more verbose, even though one of my goals is to cut down on the length of the posts. But I will continue blogging as long as I enjoy writing up my thoughts on the books, along with including some background on the authors.

What do I like best about blogging?

  • The community of book bloggers. It is wonderful to be able to learn from others who share my love for books and reading.
  • The process of organizing and writing down my thoughts about the books I read.
  • Reminders of authors I need to check out or get reacquainted with.
  • Discovering new authors. I thought I knew a lot about older mystery novels (pre-1960's) before I started blogging, but I am constantly amazed at how much more there is to learn.

Two vintage authors that I just read about recently were Christopher Bush (at Vintage Pop Fictions) and Roy Vickers, specifically The Department of Dead Ends (at Tip the Wink).

And I will end with some lovely books covers of books I hope to read this year.

  1. Oh congratulations Tracy, happy anniversary! I agree with all you say, those are the reasons I enjoy blogging. I had no idea before I started how many friends I would make, and how nice it would be to find people who share my interests. Let's hope we all go on forever. Those are great covers, proud to see my ELW book there. The John D MacDonald is a nice addition to your skulls and skeletons collection.

    1. Thank you, Moira. I had to include a skull cover, and I do want to read more of MacDonald's Travis McGee books. The White novel is one of two that I have, and the other is an e-book. I do want to try her writing too.

    1. Very true, Brian. I look forward to The Iron Gates; I haven't read a Millar book yet that I did not enjoy.

  4. Congratulations! You could do worse than your choice of books, though I don't know White's work.

    1. Thanks, Todd, I think I am going to like all of them. I haven't read anything by White either (well, one short story), but I have heard good things about her writing.

  5. TracyK: Congratulations on your blogoversary or whatever the event should be called. It takes a lot of dedication to blog for five years.

And I am glad that with a new computer at home it appears I will be able to comment again. I know not why I could not comment through my other computers.

    1. Bill, it does take dedication to blog, thus a good thing that I enjoy it so much.

I am so glad you can comment again. I never could figure how what else to do to improve commenting.

  6. Happy blog birthday Tracy. I like the same things about blogging as you do - I find that details of a book I blog about stays in my memory long after those of a book I don't get around to discussing on the blog.

    1. Thanks, Bernadette. I just have to figure out how to stay relatively current with posting about books I have read. It seems to take me just as long to write a short post as a long post.
