The 76th Annual Santa Barbara International Orchid Show

On Friday, March 8th, we attended the 76th annual Santa Barbara International Orchid Show.  It was a fantastic photography opportunity and most visitors were taking photos as they visited the exhibits. The show is extremely popular but we hoped that Friday would be less crowded. My husband and I and our son all took pictures and I included some of my favorites in this post. Click on the images for the best viewing quality.

From the website:

The Santa Barbara International Orchid Show is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious orchid shows in the United States, reflecting the rich agricultural and orchid-growing history of Santa Barbara County. Visitors from all over the world return each March to delight in our grand orchid displays installed by local, national and international artisans and orchid enthusiasts. Exhibits of orchid art, photography and floral arrangements, in addition to a comprehensive workshop and demonstration schedule, provide visitors with a rich and unique orchid experience.

  1. These are absolutely beautiful, Tracy! Thanks for sharing them. I'm sure that in real life, they're even lovelier. It reminds me just a bit of the Philadelphia Flower Show that I went to a few times. There were spectacular flowers, and I think it really lifts a person up to see that much beauty.

  2. Margot, I always think of how much effort and care went into growing the plants and preparing them for display. And I enjoy seeing all the various types of orchids that I am not familiar with.

  4. I agree, Constance. The yellow orchids are spectacular and they always seem to have a dark red as a contrasting color.

  7. Thanks, Kay. The orchids were all so beautiful, and it was great to have so many opportunities for good photos. Some of the orchids were tiny or displayed lower and they were hard to photograph (at least for me).

  8. I do love orchids, Lark. I need to learn the names of all the types. I know cymbidiums because I have grown them outdoors in pots, but the rest are a mystery.

  9. Wow so pretty. I love the intricate design on the petals ... especially the purple & white ones in the third photo. Like a spiral .... that lure you in.

  10. Susan, I love that purple and white orchid also. I am not even sure of the type of orchid, but I would like to see what conditions it needs to grow.
