Amazed and pleased

I am amazed, and pleased, of course, that Nancy at ipsofactodotme has nominated me for the Inspiring Blogger award.

Nancy's blog is subtitled "comfort zone reading" but she covers a wide range of book genres, with an emphasis on the classics, and she delves deep into the books she reads. Two of my favorite posts are: Lawrence in Arabia and On the Beach (both books I would like to read). Please check out her blog and sample her interesting posts. Thank you very much, Nancy.

Seven facts about myself:

  1. I enjoy photography as a creative outlet. I just play at it, but I feel like it gives the opportunity to look at the world and the details differently. My husband, son, and I do day trips in town to interesting places and photograph what appeals to us.
  2. I love my job because delving into databases with programming code is about logic, and learning computer languages, and solving problems.
  3. I love spending time in book stores, although we have fewer and fewer available here, because I live in a relatively small city which can't support many book stores. We have some good used books stores and a wonderful independent book store, Chaucer's Bookstore.
  4. I just had a scary health incident, with a very happy ending, and it makes me very appreciative of all I have: my family, my job, books, reading, blogging.
  5. I don't read much but crime fiction. I like to branch out now and then, but crime fiction is my love.
  6. I was very shy as a child and haven't changed much since then.
  7. I lived in Alabama until I was twenty-three. I moved to California at that point and have lived in that state since. The states are about as different as two states can be.

Here’s the rules:

  • Thank and link to the person who nominated you.
  • List the rules and display the award.
  • Share seven facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
  • Optional: display the award logo on your blog and follow the blogger who nominated you.

Regarding nominating other amazing blogs, I could easily come up with a list of 15 such blogs. But that would mean leaving some amazing blogs out. I have at least three times that many blogs listed on my sidebar, and every one of them is amazing, AND I am sure I have missed some I visit, and many I have not found yet. So I will follow the lead of a few other nominees for this award and point to the blog roll here for a lot of Very Inspiring Blogs.

Congrats on your nomination. :-)

Crime fic is my love too... it used to be fantasy, sci-fi or horror but crime has ovetaken it now.

Sorry to hear about your health scare but glad to hear all is now well.

TracyK: Thanks for the interesting facts about yourself. I have been doing a bit of detecting in that now I know when you moved to California and your blog about me says about how long you have lived in California I have a good idea of your age.

I am glad your health issues were resolved. I found that when I dealing with a medical issue the energy drains out of me.

Thanks, Cath. I have so many crime fiction books I want to read, I find it hard to make space in my reading time for anything else.

Bill, that is funny about my age. When I wrote that fact, I thought about how that... but went ahead anyway. You are right about medical issues, my energy is still low, but I look forward to getting back to normal soon.

Congratulations to a well-deserved blogger. It certainly is a pleasure to come here and read the post and the comments, always interesting.

So glad your health scare turned out not to be one and that you're on the mend.

And age, as I approach another birthday, I'm getting philosophical about it. As a relative said, "Consider the alternative." And thinking of a cousin who passed away three years and was only a year younger than me, I try to now think of all the time ahead of me as a treat, as something special. Now if only I didn't trip now taking out the recycling garbage!

Many congratulations, Tracy! Thanks for sharing a few things about yourself. Photography is an excellent and a satisfying hobby. I've been meaning to get back to drawing and painting, myself, though I'm no artist. I was amused by Bill's comment. As fellow bloggers, for a reasonably long time now, we know so little about each other and whatever comes out is often through our thoughts on the books we read and the films we watch and the comments we share. Generally speaking, I think when we're blogging, with a fair degree of intensity, we forget our own and other people's vulnerability. As long as there is always a happy ending, that is all that matters.

Well done - I was half-tempted to back-track to try and "date" you, but that would be rude! I can only echo Prashant's comments about happy outcomes.

Tracy - Congratulations on a very well-deserved award! I'm sorry to hear that you had a health scare - frightening! - but glad that all has gone well. I'm looking forward to learning from your posts for a long time to come.

Thanks very much, Kathy. I agree with you on age. There are ups and downs to all stages of life. To everything, for that matter.

Thanks for your kind words, Prashant. It was interesting to me, when I was ill, reading was still uppermost in my thoughts (after family of course). I have to have a book with me ...

Thanks, Col. When I was younger, I used to tell my mother, age is just a state of mind. She said, you just wait. And she was right.

Thanks, Margot. One thing about a health scare is it focuses your thoughts on how much you have to be grateful for.

Yes, it forces one to be grateful for one what has.

One thing is that books have gotten me through a lot of things, including disappointments, aggravation, illness and just plain old bad days.

On age, I have always liked the author Pat Barker's sentiment in one of her short stories about life in an economically stressed Northern England town. An older woman looks at herself in the mirror and sees that her face has changed and proclaims, "But I still have the passion I had when I was 16!" Amen to that!

Congratulations on your well-deserved award: I enjoy stopping by to read your posts and comment when I have time (and Blogger cooperates)! I wish you an uneventful recovery accompanied by the perfect book to fit your mood.

Kathy, the only time I have given up regular reading (of fiction) was when I was learning a new skill (at work or in my personal life). And then I was reading about the "how tos" of the new skill. I love reading what authors can do with words and there are so many great crime fiction books nowadays.

TracyK said...

Thanks, Rebecca. I have been varying my reading lately. Some more humorous, light-hearted fiction interspersed in the thrillers.

Congratulations on well-deserved award Tracy, and it was nice to learn a little more about you.

Moira, I always feel like a dull person because I work and I like to read and spend time with my family and that is about it. Not a lot of traveling or extracurricular activities, but that is the way I like it.

And to each her own! Your life sounds fine and fulfilling. Good dinners, books and family/friends makes a very nice life.

TracyK said...

Thanks, Kathy, I like my quiet life. The only thing I would ask for would be more book stores close to where I live. But I don't want to live in a big metropolitan area, so I don't think that is going to happen.

Great post and thanks for the kind words....
You are responsible for draging me away for the classics "kicking and screaming" into the world of crime fiction. That is what I call inspirational! I can connect with the change of state at 23 yrs I made a similar move but to The Netherlands, No two countries were more different on many levels!

TracyK said...

Thanks, Nancy. You are inspiring me to read more classics, although I am sure it will be slow going.
